Vertical Density

This work began in Hong Kong, where I became fixated on the compression of time and space into a single frame. I wanted to fit in as much as possible, using film not as a means to a polished image but as a recording device. The process is performative: the exposure has to work in the moment, there’s no fixing it in post, and there’s a real excitement in having no idea what it will look like until it’s done.

What drew me was line, shape, and form. In Hong Kong everything went upward, whereas the American suburb I knew sprawled outward. It was sprawl versus density, and density won.
